This page is designed to help you understand the usage of tools within the map. Please click here to visit the map. Note: A user name and password is required to add or edit trails.
Right Side of Map

Layers: Allows you to view specific layers of the map by selecting the layer to be viewed in the drop down menu. When you bring up the drop down menu at the top of the dialog box that appears after clicking the layers icon and by selecting the types of map you change the overall map appearance. The layer transparency drop down menu lets you select from the three fields trails, proposed trails, and points of interest. After selecting one of these fields sliding the transparency bar to the right of the drop down menu makes the selected field more or less visible. The field becomes more visible if the bar is slid to the right and less visible if it is slid to the left.
Find

Map: User clicks a trail and the tool retrieves data about that trail along with sorting them by type. Clicking the arrow within the dialog box brings up the drop down menu and upon clicking one of the layers then moving the cursor and clicking on one of the objects in that layer a box appears containing information about that object, such as a description.

Table: Searches by types of trails from the drop down menu and zooms in to the trail selected in the right column. This is achieved by first bringing up the drop down menu by clicking the arrow and then selecting a specific trail from the table below by clicking on the desired trail.
Tools

Draw: Clicking the Draw icon within the tools menu brings up a dialog box with a drop down menu and two buttons. Bringing up the drop down menu by clicking the arrow brings up the kinds of objects to be drawn such as a point or polygon. The user can then click the draw settings button to bring up the dialog box which will allow them to select the characteristics of the objects they wish to draw. The clear drawings button erases all drawings made.

Login: Logs a user into the system and activates the create tool after entering a correct username and password. This is done by selecting the login icon within the tools menu. This will bring up a dialog box where the user inputs a name and password into the respective fields. If the user inputs a correct name and password the create and logout icons appear and login disappears.

Logout (Appears upon succesful login): Logs the user out of the system by clicking the icon.

Create (Administrators only and appears upon successful log in): Allows a registered user to create new trails on the map for the public by clicking the type of trail or point of interest and then clicking points on the map to create them. The user first has to log in to the server then select the create icon from the tools menu which is accessed by clicking the tools icon. This will bring up the dialog box containing the types of trails and points of interest to be inserted into the map. For points of interest the user then clicks the points of interest selection then clicks on the map to place it. For trails the user selects the type of trail by clicking on it then clicking the points of the map where they want the trail to go. When finished double clicking will end the drawing of the trail and a dialog box will appear allowing you to change its characteristics.

Print: Prints the document to the selected printer by portrait or landscape which is chosen by clicking the circle next to the desired effect. Clicking the “Send Map to Printer” button prints the map that is shown in the print preview box. Please read disclaimer before printing.
Left Side of Map

Zoom In: Moves the camera closer to the selected region and enlarging it. Selecting the zoom in icon changes the cursor to a magnifying glass with a + sign and upon dragging the cursor over the area the user wishes to select a red square forms around it and the camera zooms to the center of that square.

Zoom Out: Moves the camera farther from the selected area making the area less detailed. Selecting the zoom out icon changes the cursor to a magnifying glass with a – sign and upon dragging the cursor over the area the user wishes to select a red square forms around it and the camera zooms out from the center of that square.

Pan: Allows the user to move about the map by clicking a point on the map and dragging the cursor in the direction the user wishes to move the map.

Zoom to Full Extent of Map: Moves the camera out to the furthest extent to view the entire map by clicking the icon on the left hand side of the map.
